SouthGate Community started in November of 2005 as a ministry of First Baptist Church of Calgary (FBC). At that time a dozen members of FBC committed to start a new congregation of the church in the fast-growing southwest corner of Calgary.
FBC has always been a church that sees the value of ministering in its local community. This vision has been the start of a number of ministries in downtown Calgary, including the Open Door Seniors Programs, the Mustard Seed, the Beltline Youth Drop In and more recently the Calgary International Learning Centre.
As of July 1, 2008 we became SouthGate Baptist Church, an autonomous church plant within the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (formerly the Baptist Union of Western Canada). We have appreciated the past support of FBC and appreciate their blessing as we move into this new chapter of our story.
